The FF Plus will be requesting the ANC government to do away with affirmative action in the public sector as race targets have been reached and it is now discriminating against minorities such as white and brown people, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on labour says.
The FF Plus obtained a reply in parliament to a question it posed on the latest figures on affirmative action which show that targets have been reached in the public sector and that white and brown people are now under-represented.
In the light of this, Adv. Alberts will be holding talks with the minister of labour, Ms Mildred Oliphant, the minister of trade and industry, Dr. Rob Davies, as well as the chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee on trade and industry, Ms. Joanmarie Fubbs.
He will insist that the continuation with AA will be unconstitutional and that it would infringe on the rights of minorities in South Africa.

There are increasingly less positions available for white and brown people in the public service and the two minority groups are now under-represented according to affirmative action targets set out according to the national demographics of the country, adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on public service and administration says.
In a reply to a parliamentary question, Adv. Alberts had asked about the number of workers of every population group in the public service, it appears that the target for black people has just about been reached. Indian people are the most advantaged and is over-represented at 0,75% of the number of people in the public service.
White and brown people are both under-represented nearly half a percent. Where white people make up 9,2% of the country’s population, they make up 8,8% of the number of people in the public service.
From the reply of the minister, it appears that there are 1,328,687 workers in the public service at present. Of these, there is uncertainty about the race and gender of 1,637 people.
With regards to the rest there is 1,055,274 (79,4%) black, 43,120 (3,2%) Indian, 111,236 (8,3%) brown and 117,420 (8,8%) white people working in the public service.
Adv. Alberts says it is clear from the statistics how there is increasing discrimination against white people in the workplace. He said the whole process was driven aggressively in the past twenty years and South Africa has paid an enormous price for it by sacrificing its service delivery.
“The ANC government should realise that its targets have now been reached and should stop hunting white and brown people. If it should continue driving affirmative action the way it has done up to now, white people will within a number of years disappear from the public service completely.
“The government should for now implement its policy on appointments in reverse gear in an attempt to rectify the injustices. The FF Plus will confront the government about this and demands that more people from minority groups be appointed to the public service,” Adv. Alberts says.

The discussion points of an international conference that the Public Service Commission is hosting at present in Pretoria, points to government not being in touch with the real issues which is paralysing the public service, Dr. Pieter Mulder, leader of the Freedom Front Plus says.
The theme of the conference is: “Building a capable, career and professional Public Service to underpin a Developmental State in South Africa”. Brazil, Malaysia, China and Zimbabwe are attending the conference.
Dr. Mulder says it is incomprehensible that South Africa are seeking solutions to its problems from a country such as Zimbabwe while it is well-known that an over-sized public service, exorbitant state wages and the effect of transformation are the real problems which have to be addressed.
“Government has in this month in a written reply to a parliamentary question of the FF Plus acknowledged that affirmative action (AA) targets have now been reached and that the public service is in actual fact over-transformed with regards to South Africa’s racial demographics.
This means that black people’s target of 80%, or 8 in every ten public servants have already been reached. White people, who make up 9,2% of the population of the country and brown people at 8,9% of the population are now under-represented. At home affairs black representation is approximately 92%.
“This is a very important acknowledgment and the process of transformation must be stopped immediately. Should government continue with it, minorities such as white and brown people will soon be pushed out of the public service completely,” Dr. Mulder said.
According to Dr. Mulder, the public service commission could have placed one of its own recent findings on the agenda, i.e. that cadre deployment and incompetence in the name of AA and transformation are some of the main reasons for poor service delivery.
“The commission had earlier this month, according to a report in Beeld (7 November), acknowledged that many departments are suffering as a result of maladministration, a shortage of skilled people and corruption and that they are on the brink of collapsing.
“The Auditor-General (AG) has also commented on this issue and said that the appointment of ignorant people is drastically impeding service delivery.
“It is not just about black and white, but about merit and the appointment of competent people in the interest of everybody in South Africa,” Dr. Mulder said.
